Open Evening For Our Dental Colleagues

The Directors, Drs Peter Vickers, Michael Cooper, Paul Hammans and Staff welcomed their dental colleagues to an Open Evening at Canberra Surgicentre on Thursday 8th May 2008.

Guests were invited to meet our Surgeons, Anaesthetists and Staff working in the facility and were given a guided tour of our Day Surgery Facility and Consulting Rooms.

The evening included a short presentation by our Practice Manager, Nijole Szabo who outlined our four business locations (Braddon, Deakin, Bondi and Balmain) as well as other locations where our Surgeons provide consulting services (Wagga, Batemans Bay and Merimbula). Our Surgeons attend private hospitals; Calvary Private Hospital, National Capital Private Hospital, Bega Valley Day Surgery Centre, St Vincent's, Randwick Day Surgery Hospital, Bondi Junction Private Hospital and Double Bay in Sydney. Nijole described the procedures completed at Canberra Surgicentre as well as Head and Neck surgical procedures completed in major hospitals.

During the evening, Dr Peter Vickers captured two audiences with his interesting demonstration of the nasendoscopy procedure in the Head and Neck Clinic. This examination is of the nose and upper airways by the use of a small flexible tube (endoscope) and allows the Surgeon to examine the lining of these areas. The examination looks at the nose (nasal cavity), the back of the nasal cavity (nasopharynx), the back of the mouth and tongue (oropharynx) and the upper part of the voice box (laryngo-pharynx). The area to be examined is illuminated by a light. Images of the area are transmitted via optical fibres within the endoscope to a viewing port or TV monitor.

Canberra Surgicentre is accredited with The Australian Council on Health Care Standards and due for its Organisational Wide Survey in 2009. Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Staff and Allied Health Professionals work conscientiously to deliver a high level of quality care to our patients.

A new position has been created at Canberra Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Our Client Relations Manager will be going out to meet all Dentists and Staff in their dental practices in Canberra and surrounding areas. This position will provide support and information to our customers (one to one), meet with dental practice managers to discuss improvements to customer service and provide a contact point to expedite customer service needs when required. The Directors and Staff are committed to working in partnership to improve the quality and safety of our services to ensure the best possible care for all our customers.

The Directors and Staff would like to thank their dental colleagues for their ongoing support. We hope you found the evening informative, enjoyable and look forward to our continued partnership in providing our customers with the highest standard of patient care.
